Biographical Notes

Caroline Andrew is a psychologist who works in private practice in Crows Nest, Sydney. She trained with the late Professor Masterson and is currently a Faculty Member for the International Masterson Institute.

Peter Ellingsen is a registered psychoanalyst (ACP) based in Melbourne. He has a PhD in Psychological Medicine from Monash University, a Master of Science degree in psychology from London University, and has completed the four-year training offered by the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis. He is a former managing editor of The Age, and an Australian Journalist of the Year and has awards from the Public Health Association of Australia, the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Service and Victoria’s Mental Health Fellowship. Apart from A History of Psychoanalysis in Australia: From Freud to Lacan Peter has co-authored ‘Cries Unheard’, a book on mental health. He has written for numerous publications including London’s Financial TimesThe Griffith ReviewMeanjin and Arena.

Wayne Featherstone is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in private practice in Melbourne. He also teaches Counselling Skills and Psychoanalytic Theory to Masters and Undergraduate students at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne and is completing a PhD on the Aesthetic Dimensions of Psychoanalysis and its intersections with Literature, specifically Lyric poetry, through the University of South Australia. 

His primary psychoanalytic interest is with a number of so called Post-Kleinian and Post-Bionaian psychoanalytic theorists including but not limited to Meltzer, Harris-Williams, Grotstein, Ogden and Matte-Blanco, as well as several current Italian authors such as Ferro, Civitarese, and Mancia, who have much to say about the aesthetics of psychoanalysis and ‘Field Theory’. He is also an interested amateur observer of attempts in the last decade or so to apply insights from Neuro-science to Psychoanalysis.

He previously worked for many years in various Adult Psychiatric settings and originally trained as a Secondary Teacher, and then as a Social Worker, before completing the VAPP Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy With Adults in 1987.

Jeremy Holmes is a psychiatrist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and visiting Professor of Psychological Therapies at the University of Exeter, UK. Author of 150+ peer reviewed articles and chapter and 16 books in the field of psychoanalysis and attachment theory, his most recent book, Exploring In Security: Towards an Attachment-informed Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy(Routledge 2009) won the Canadian Psychological Society’s award for the best psychoanalytic book 2010.

Neil Maizels is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in Melbourne, and also a composer. He has a particular interest in the relationship between psychoanalysis and the Arts.

Christine Brett Vickers is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice and a historian. She writes the blog on psychoanalysis, history and the mind, ‘Freud in Oceania’ — www.freudinoceania.com Her father’s professional interest in China and Japan from the 1960s to the 1980s often determined the direction of dinner-table conversation during her childhood years.

Karen Wilkinson is a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist working in private practice and a committee member of the Victorian Child Psychotherapists Association (VCPA). Karen has taught in the Masters of Child Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, the Graduate program and the current Child Psychotherapy stream within the Masters of Mental Health Science. Karen’s therapeutic background includes Acquired Brain Injury, Vision Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Chronic Illness, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
